After the victorious battle of Long Island in 1776 the Continental army gave Punkiesberg a new name; "Cobble Hill". Cobble Hill is a quiet, family oriented neighborhood. The tranquil streets that make up this cozy area are lined with brownstone and brick row houses dating back to the 1800s. If you stroll over to Court and Smith Street you will find Cobble Hill's main attractions. These two streets abound with family run shops, Italian meat markets, quaint cafes and trendy restaurants. In the late 1990's, a wide array of restaurants and bars were opened on Smith Street, which gave this area the nickname "Restaurant Row".
The calm setting of Cobble Hill Park is ideal for a family day out. In the 90s the park won two awards; the Annual Award for Excellence.
